Eyes on Your Own Paper: Maker FOMO is Real!

Imitation certainly might be flattery. It might also just be being a copycat. It could be a good way to figure things out in your business. It might also completely wreck your business.

One of the biggest ways that business coaches, consultants and gurus market their info products is by telling you “I did it it this way and had success. Just copy what I did!”

And this doesn’t seem all bad right? Someone has already figured “it” out. YAY!

But what is “it”? Will “it” apply to your business the same way? Is “it” even still the same platform when they figured “it” out? Has everything changed?

This is the danger in following someone else’s path to success.

It is theirs that fought hard to carve out. Trying to replicate exactly will just leave your business a shadow of theirs.

I want to be clear that being similar is not being the same. Obviously if you are selling jewelry-- others have done it before you. There are smart ways to sell things that are tried and true on Etsy.

But that is different than following someone else’s path. It’s the difference between understanding how to build a home and just building a home of someone else’s blueprint so you look like you are some kind of suburban tract home.

Build your business home to meet your needs. To fit your life.
