Making Member Badges with a Tulip ScreenIt

We had the pleasure of trying out the Tulip ScreenIt kit from our lovely sponsor iLoveToCreate, for our 2014 member badges. The video instructions tell you that you can screen print super “simple & quick” and I immediately got excited to see if this holds true.

The kit is perfect for screen printing t-shirts, small posters, or other items under 10.5" x 13.5". The screen burns for just 15 minutes and the kit comes with a yellow bulb so you can turn any room into a darkroom for screen printing. One thing to note is you will need to print using the highest quality, deepest black possible on 20lb. copy paper and you will also need Aleene's Repositionable Tacky Spray Adhesive that is NOT included in the starter box.

What works best?

I found that a bold design with one main color is exceptional with this tool. The ScreenIt has film sheets that are pre-emulsified for both convenience and precision. Using emulsion can be a tricky technique to pick up on. You can over coat the screen, not let it cure long enough, or accidentally expose it a million different ways making screen printing a very difficult process for beginners to produce exceptional images right away.

Once watching all the informational videos on iLoveToCreate's website you can master creating your first design in under an hour. This all-in-one machine is a wonderful way to screen print at home without a ton of mess and minimal storage space required!

Maybe this is not a right fit for:

  • Designs with tiny details or intricate line work. (Lines need to be at least 1/16 of an inch wide.)
  • Designs with precise, multiple color ways.
  • Designs bigger than 10.5” x 13.5”
Here is the result! The thin lines came out extraordinarily well, I think.

Thanks again to our wonderful sponsors at iLoveToCreate for all of their continued support and help with the creative projects we are up to at the Academy! If you have a project that uses the ScreenIt we would love to see it!  Leave us a comment and share on Facebook.
