Workshop Wrap-Up: Visualize It

This past weekend the Academy of Handmade held Visualize It - An Inspiration Board Workshop, led by member Rachel Hillberg of Elephant Dust Handmade and Lindsey of Bettyvision, at West Elm OC.

Mood boards. Inspiration boards. Vision boards. These are all ways to describe how to visually express thoughts and ideas for your business or personal life.  The group learned how to create beautiful boards that can help you plan your next product, give a client a visual idea of your project, inspire your next home renovation or remind you of personal goals.

Attendees started the day with light refreshments including handmade granola from member My Favorite Indulgence. We supplied for everyone inspirational images for your board including magazines, swatches and customizable printed ribbon by Epson. Attendees left with their own kit of supplies that you could take home after the workshop including scissors in handsewn covers by Creative Outlet Studios.

Lindsey of Bettyvision helped lead the group in a relaxing meditation before we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. This process of meditation plus visualizing what is important to you really helped everyone tap into themes and goals they might not have focused on prior to the session. It was really impressive how much people noted that the reflective meditation really added to what images and themes they put on their boards. Following the meditation overview Rachel introduced everyone to a “shapes test” (you can find a similar exercise here) and shared with everyone different ways to make your boards both inspiring and aesthetically exciting.

A big thanks to our sponsors Epson, Xyron, My Favorite Indulgence, Creative Outlet Studios and West Elm.
